Pepe Deluxé

Pepe Deluxé is the latest Finnish sensation. In its July 1998 issue, the British Muzik magazine chose their six-track mini-LP released on Tiger label as the "Vital Release" of its Downtempo section.There are three members in the act, DJ Slow, James Spectrum and JA-Jazz. DJ Slow, who scratches on the records, is already a bit of a hip hop legend; James Spectrum, heavily into 60's stuff, is the group's main composer, and JA-Jazz owns a large collection of jazz records where the group's samples come from. JA-Jazz has a background in acid jazz which he already played during those days when techno still ruled supreme, and he is also an old friend of Helsinki DJ Ender and has occasionally spinned records as DJ Atom or Atomic.
Pepe Deluxé also had one track on a West Coast collection from which they got good reviews. Furthermore, the boys have remixed Finnish artists such as Wilma. Their video filmed on low budget seems to have entered the rotation of international music channels. More info from the links below.
