Club Telex is a monthly event in Tampere, Finland, which is dedicated to experimental and avantgardistic electronic music and its different subgenres, from ambient to techno. Not only live music, Club Telex also offers experimental short films from the most respected Finnish and international directors, alongside other eye candy, DJ music and intellectual stimulation.Telex takes place at the legendary Yo-Talo, the traditional Student Union club of Tampere. So far Club Telex has presented live performances from such luminaries and rising stars of Finnish electronic and experimental music as the internationally acclaimed Pan sonic, Nu Science, Op:l Bastards, Ektroverde and Virtalähde, Anton Nikkilä & Alexei Borisov (Russia), Nemesis, Ever Had, Unidentified Sound Objects and Kukka.
This year's first main act of Club Telex will be the electro duo Mr. Velcro Fastener of Turku, Finland. Having already gained some international fame, Mr. Velcro Fastener - alongside their own Tie Entertainment record label - has released several twelve-inches for the German i220 label, with also their debut album 'Lucky Bastards Living Up North'.November 1999 saw Mr. Velcro Fastener's tour to Italy and Germany - with, among all, such greats as Carl Craig and Dave Clarke joining them. The boys have also remixed Hardfloor, one of the biggest names in acid techno. Stylistically, Mr. Velcro Fastener's music is influenced by old school electro beats - Kraftwerk, Afrika Bambaataa - with some added Detroit techno flavour. Club Telex is proud to present the Tampere premiere of Mr. Velcro Fastener.
O Samuli A is the renaissance man Samuli Alapuranen, who lives these days in Helsinki. O Samuli A is behind the self-released CD's '100% Polyester' and 'Perro'. Samuli's music is a sort of combination of electronic lo-fi lounge and IDM; with certain similarities to Jimi Tenor's cheapie aesthetics. Alapuranen has also gained some merit as a video artist: his experimental short 'Ulkomaat' has been in circulation on various Finnish film festivals.
Part and parcel of Club Telex have always been the audiovisual presentations. One of the most loved animation film characters in Finland, Kössi Kenguru - Kössi the Kangaroo - arrives to Club Telex this time, with some of our hero's greatest adventures. Most people in Finland can remember Heikki Prepula's green animation character from their childhoods, with a great amount of nostalgia, and Telex presents both the first and latest Kössi animations. Kössi is cool!
As always, Club Telex resident DJ's Mini & pHinn spin the weirdest, most experimental and grooviest records around.More information:
