Zardoz: The penis is evil. The penis shoots seeds, and makes new life, and poisons the earth with a plague of men, as once it was. But the gun shoots death, and purifies the earth of the filth of brutals. Go forth and kill!This 1974 science fiction film by John Boorman is best watched as a camp-style, satirical black comedy (though most of the humour must be unintentional here), and to enjoy the ludicrousness, pretentiousness and overblown proportions of it all. With all the thought-provoking and intelligent ideas the original script contains (about immortality, political struggle and class society division), it's a pity the film is so pompously executed, and turns in the end a sort of Nietzschean Barbarella for intellectuals.
