Born June 8, 1947 in London. The debut single 'Take Me by the Hand' in 1963. Joined in 1965 the short-lived R&B act Steampacket (with Rod Stewart, Long John Baldry and organist Brian Auger). In 1968 had with Brian Auger a Top Five UK hit 'This Wheel's On Fire', a cover of Bob Dylan's song; used in the 1990s as the theme music for BBC's comedy series Absolutely Fabulous. Her debut solo album 1969 was more jazz-tinged than pop. Married jazz pianist Keith Tippett, changing her name as Julie Tippetts. 1974's Sunset Glow album ranged from folk to jazz.
