DJ pHinn

14 August 1999, Bigpop, Yo-Talo, Tampere
pHinn played as a guest DJ back to back with DJs Sami (aka 3.14Sami) and Riku (aka Infekto) [brackets]. Sami and Riku are both well-known DJs among Tampere dance music circles, so a lot of people you usually see only at techno and house parties were there. The funny thing, though, is that despite his techno DJ reputation Sami is a big fan of British indie guitar pop (he had every album from Belle & Sebastian, loads of Smiths, Radiohead, etc.), which must have been confusing for some of those people, who had come to spend another night of "uplifting" house dance party. I think this was very positive, though. (Personally, I would have liked to have a chance to play more dance stuff, but I knew I was playing only second fiddle that night, so...)On the other hand, as I was leaving, I witnessed another heated rant from one client for whom the DJ hadn't play his favourite track because the lack of time or some other reason like that. It's always amusing but also sad to see how aggravated some people can really get over the DJ not playing their favourite songs; they are like little children that can't get their will through and throw a tantrum to their parents. Some girls would even start crying and some guys really want to beat the DJ up. Come on, people, grow up; it's only music.
