"What I was listening to late 07 & early 08":

28.12.2007:

Portishead - Portishead

Doesn't have as many big hits as "Dummy", but IMO a stronger album. "Half Day Closing" could be my favorite Portishead tune ever.

Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer

Probably one of the heaviest BS albums along with "Master of Reality", but still containing melodies and catchy hooks. The same line-up will release a new record this year. Not sure why listening to Portishead made me to dig this one out.

Scorpions - Fly to the Rainbow

Couldn't resist buying a copy for € 1,50. "Speedy's Coming" is a great opener that recycles the riff from the garage rock standard "Action Woman" (although I doubt if Scorps were familiar with that tune). There is a blown-out freak rock version of the title track on the "Tokyo Tapes" live album where Uli Jon Roth is trying to channel the spirit of Jimi Hendrix.

Haikara - s/t

Excellent Finnish prog-rock in the vein of Van Der Graaf Generator/early King Crimson. 2.1.2008:

Radiopuhelimet - Viisi tähteä

What can I say? Radiopuhelimet are Radiopuhelimet and this is their latest.

The 7 x 7 vol.1 -set

http://www.umpio.com/mp3list.html#4

Since Mr. Pentti Dassum (Deep Turtle, Cosmo Jones Beat Machine et al.) appears on the Radiopuhelimet's album, I decided to check if he had uploaded any new mp3's on his site.

Lo and behold! There is an interesting collection of OOP 7"'s available as a one big zip-file. Everything from Russian hip-hop to Icelandic no-wave to "stripped down turbo blues", "super dirty snot garage" and "self-embarassment rock" from Finland. How about a vol.2 in the near future, Pentti?

I suggest you to check out the rest of the stuff there too.
